Residents of islands off the Co Donegal coast are today casting the first votes in the Lisbon referendum.
Islanders on Arranmore and Tory straddling two constituencies off the Donegal coast are among those going to the polls. There is an electorate of 516 on Arranmore and 134 on Tory.
Voters on Gola, Inishfree, and Inishbofin are also voting today.
People living off the Mayo and Galway coasts will vote on Wednesday, while the Cork islands will vote along with the rest of the nation on Thursday, June 12th.
Off-shore islands normally vote in advance of election day to ensure the ballot boxes can be safely transported to count centres.
After the ballot boxes are sealed, they are escorted to the mainland, where they will be securely stored until counting begins on Friday.
