The US dollar was flat to marginally lower against its major rivals this afternoon but had largely stabilised as investors took pause after driving the greenback to record euro lows and three-year yen lows earlier this week.
Geopolitical concerns still hung over the US currency in the wake of rocket blasts in Iraq today that follow deadly bombings in Turkey a day earlier.
But the dollar was underpinned by suspected ongoing Japanese intervention to shore up the greenback in order to protect Japanese exports.
The dollar was recently down 0.2 per cent against the yen at 108.76 yen. The euro was flat at $1.1904. The dollar eased 0.1 per cent against its Swiss counterpart at 1.2978 francs, while the British pound was steady at $1.7045.
There were no US economic releases scheduled although several Federal Reserve officials were delivering speeches.
