Snooker:Ken Doherty's journey back to form Down Under came to an end after he was denied a place in the final of the Australian Goldfields Open in Bendigo by Mark Williams.

Doherty was up against the Welsh lefthander in the semi-final but lost 6-2. The upshot for the Dublin cueman is that in reaching his first semi-final in a ranking tournament since 2006 – he defeated world number three Mark Selby in the quarter-final - will give the 1997 world champion a boost up the rankings.

Williams will take on Stuart Bingham, who progressed to the first ranking tournament final of his career after defeating Shaun Murphy in his semi-final.

Bingham (35) beat fellow Englishman Murphy 6-2 at the Victoria venue. He previously came through a grudge match against Antrim’s Mark Allen in the quarter-final.
