Singapore - A Singapore crime laboratory is making its services available to people seeking proof of infidelity, a newspaper here said yesterday in a report inspired by the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal. The evening daily New Paper said the Institute of Science and Forensic Medicine (ISFM), which helps police solve crimes, can for a fee test materials such as clothing for the presence of semen, and provide DNA matching as well.
DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, is a basic substance found in living things which allows extremely precise matching of blood, hair and semen samples. DNA tests on semen stains on a dress were used by US investigators to prove that President Clinton had an affair with the former White House aide, Ms Monica Lewinsky.
One woman turned in a piece of squashed tissue paper she found in her car, which her husband had used while she was overseas. It was found to contain semen, and that was enough for her to conclude her husband was unfaithful.
