Four divers were rescued yesterday afternoon after drifting underwater off the north Donegal coast.

The divers, who are members of the Sligo sub-aqua club, got into difficulties while diving close to Portronan near Malin Head.

It is understood they were caught in a strong underwater current which carried them about five miles from their diving support boat.

The alarm was raised by the crew of the support boat and a search was carried out by a helicopter from Strandhill and from Northern Ireland.

The three men and a woman were not injured in the incident.
