Disgraced former gynaecolo gist Rodney Ledward (65) has died, gardai said last night. The doctor, who was struck off the medical register in Britain by the General Medical Council in 1998, died on Friday of pancreatic cancer, gardai said.

Mr Ledward left Britain to live in Mallow, Co Cork, after botching a series of operations on women. Six men have claimed their wives died after being treated by him, hundreds are suing for compensation and Kent police are investigating dozens of allegations of criminal assault relating to former patients.
