Liverpool footballer El-Hadji Diouf today pleaded guilty to assault underprovocation by spitting on a Celtic fan during a UEFA Cup match.

Appearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court, the 22-year-old Senegalese striker agreedthat he spat on the supporter during the quarter-final tie earlier this year. He was subsequently fined £5,000 sterling.

The match between Liverpool and Celtic took place at Celtic Park back in March.
