Paris - Mr Trevor Rees-Jones, the sole survivor of Princess Diana's fatal crash, was unable to recall the accident when questioned in hospital again yesterday. However he is reported to be improving and is awaiting doctors' permission to go home to Britain.
Mr Rees-Jones (29) still had a gap in his memory when questioned by investigators for a second time about the August 31st high-speed crash in a Paris road tunnel in which Princess Diana, her companion, Dodi Fayed, and their driver, Henri Paul, died.
"He provided detailed testimony about the evening [of the accident], up until the time they left the Ritz Hotel . . . But for the minutes leading up to the accident, there is a hole in his memory," a source close to the inquiry said.
Mr Rees-Jones reiterated that he noted nothing unusual about the driver, Mr Paul, found by a post-mortem to be three times over the legal drunk drive limit, before getting into the car.
