British bomb disposal experts have dealt with six suspect devices following clashes between nationalists and loyalists in north Belfast yesterday evening.

One man was treated for shrapnel injuries and shock while two other men also suffered shock after a blast bomb exploded nearby.

Firefighters responding to a house fire in Glenbryn Park were attacked with gunfire and bombs at a sectarian flashpoint in north Belfast yesterday evening.

They were forced to abandon two fire-engines during the attack and make their escape on foot. One fire officer was treated for shock after a blast bomb exploded near him.

Police were called to the Glenbryn area of Ardoyne at 4.30 p.m. yesterday after fighting broke out between rival crowds.

In a nearby area of north Belfast, Westland Road has been closed between Knutsford Drive and Cliftonville Circus due to a suspect device discovered early today.

Ardoyne has been the scene of frequent sectarian clashes over the past year since the beginning of the Holy Cross Primary School stand off.
