Police in Derry have arrested two men over an assault of a man in the city at the weekend.

Police in Derry have arrested two men over an assault of a man in the city at the weekend.

The victim (38) was attacked by four men on Rosemount Avenue early on Saturday morning.

The man was left with severe injuries and is in a critical condition in Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital.

PSNI detectives have appealed for anyone who was in the area between 4.45am and 5.30am to come forward.

They are especially looking to talk to the driver of a white car who spoke to the victim after the assault and the driver of a Ford Mondeo taxi.
