Derry 2-15 Queen's 0-06:Derry were too strong for the students of Queen's as a dominant second half performance ensured tnight's 2-15 to 0-06 Dr McKenna Cup victory at Celtic Park.

This and the Antrim v Down game at Casement Park were the only games to survive as four other Dr McKenna Cup fixtures fell foul of the weather and freezing conditions.

Fortunately the Celtic Park pitch held up exceptionally well and Queen’s were awarded an early gift by way of a penalty in the third minute of the Section B game. However James Kielt had his effort saved by Derry’s Danny Devlin.

Early points were traded but as the clocked ticked away Queen’s failed to make their chances count before Derry’s Sean Leo McGoldrick’s found the net on 10 minutes.

Derry opened a four point lead through a Paddy Bradley point and eventually went into the break 1-04 to 0-04 ahead.

Niall McKenna got the first score of the second half for Queen’s but it only served to kick-start the Derry onslaught. Peter Graham fumbled a Paddy Bradley point attempt into his own net and from there floodgates opened.

By the time the students scored again Derry led by 2-13 to 0-6 and were out of sight.

In the Section C game, Antrim and Down couldn’t be separated at Casement Park as they played out a tense 0-12 to 0-12 draw.
