Under Department of Education regulations, school transport is provided for pupils living more than three miles from the school within their catchment only. Tickets are paid for each term by parents.
The department makes provision for situations where household members might be attending schools in different catchment areas due to gender. "Pupils who would ordinarily qualify for transport to another catchment area may be allowed to board the bus at the same point as those with full transport entitlement provided that (a) no extra State cost is involved and (b) agreement of the management authorities of the school in their home centre is secured," the regulations state.
