Delayed Savita report due in next 10 days

Inquiry team expected to be criticial of systems in place at Galway hospital

The report of the review group appointed by the Health Service Executive to investigate the death of Savita Halappanavar is expected to be published in the next 10 days, the HSE has said.

The report is undergoing legal checks and, barring unforeseen circumstances, is expected to be published at the end of next week or the start of the following week, according to a spokeswoman.

The report was finalised by the inquiry team chaired by UK obstetrician Prof Sabaratnam Arulkumaran after he met Gerard O'Donnell, the solicitor representing Ms Halappanavar's husband Praveen, last April. Mr O'Donnell made written submissions following this meeting which, it is understood, have resulted in some minor changes to the final document.

Ms Halappanavar died of septicaemia in University Hospital Galway last October.
