New York - Lawyers for Karla Faye Tucker, the female double murderer on death row in Texas who is due to be executed by injection on Tuesday, yesterday lodged their second appeal with the US Supreme Court, saying they were still optimistic Tucker would receive last minute clemency.

Her supporters, including the influential right-winger and television evangelist, Mr Pat Robertson, are lobbying for her sentence to be commuted to life imprisonment. Two years ago she married the prison chaplain.
