A strike involving 300 workers at four locations in the west was called off at lunchtime today following an agreement on hourly pay.

Workers at Harrington Limited's quarries in Sligo, Galway and Mayo called the strike yesterday.

They were demanding better pay rates for a wide range of work in quarrying, road construction and building projects.

Details of the deal struck today were not released.
