The Minister for Social Welfare, Mr De Rossa, was accused of sitting in an ivory tower and not caring a whit for vulnerable elderly pensioners.

Mr Seamus Hughes, the Fianna Fail spokesman on senior citizens, accused Mr De Rossa of doing nothing to reassure and encourage pensioners that they could have savings in a bank or post office without their non contributory, means tested, pension being affected.
