A MAN who kidnapped boy in Co Meath and sexually assaulted him has had his sentence hearing fixed for September 16th next.
The case had been due for sentence yesterday at the Central Criminal Court but Mr Justice Carney was told assessment reports on the 20 year old defendant were still not completed.
Prosecuting counsel Mr Joseph Mathews SC (with Mr Caroll Moran) said he understood the need for the adjournment but the victim and his family were anxious to have the case finalised in September.
Last May, the defendant pleaded guilty to falsely imprisoning the boy, aged about 11, in his car in Meath and later in various places in Northern Ireland on June 28th, 1995.
He also admitted sexually assaulting the boy in circumstances of actual or threatened serious violence, so as to cause degradation and humiliation, on the same date. Evidence of the offences will be heard at the sentence hearing.
