Eamonn Darcy holds a share of the lead going into the final round of the MasterCard Classic in Mexico City later today.
The Irishman, who relied on a sponsors invite to enter the $2 million event, is at the top of the leaderboard with Bruce Lietzke and Tom Jenkins at nine-under par.
Darcy fired a 68 to add to yesterday's opening 67 in his first outing on the lucrative PGA Champions Tour. Des Smyth, who has already earned $166,000 in his first two tournaments, is well off the pace this weekend, a second consecutive 75 leaving him at six-over par.
Meanwhile, American golfer Jim Thorpe has withdrawn from the tournament after being mugged at gun point in a Mexico City restaurant late Friday night.
Rodger Davis, Bob Gilder, Walter Hall, Butch Sheehan and Bobby Walzel were also robbed in the restaurant. No one was injured in the attack.
