Bob-a-Job, the Easter week fundraiser for thousands of scouts, is being dropped because it has become too risky for the children.

Concern about the safety of cubs and scouts aged between six and 19 calling door to door is behind the decision.

"It's sad, but time has caught up with it," said Mr Colm Kavanagh, programme development officer of the Scouting Association of Ireland.
