Revenue's customs service and the gardaí seized eight million cigarettes and two trucks near Drogheda last night.

The "B&H" brand cigarettes, with an estimated retail value of €3.4 million, and a potential loss to the Exhequer of approximately €2.9 million, arrived into Dublin Port on a 40-foot container from China.

Two men were arrested, and investigations are ongoing. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
