Two million cigarettes with a value of around €600,000 have been seized by Customs and Excise officers at Dublin Port, it has emerged.

The contraband, which carried 'Burton' brand, was found hidden in a container which was declared as 'waterproof jackets', Customs said.

The cigarettes originated in Dubai and arrived in Dublin by car-ferry via Antwerp.

The find of resulted from intelligence and investigations are continuing, the Customs statement added.
