The Oireachtas committee set up to inquire into the conduct of Judge Brian Curtin has obtained possession of his computer and papers, The Irish Times has learned.
The committee is inquiring into how the judge came to be charged with possession of child pornography. He was acquitted because the warrant under which his computer was seized by gardaí was out of date. It has been in the possession of the Garda Síochána since.
The handover took place in Harcourt Square Garda station on Monday.
The committee was represented by its clerk and solicitor, and the judge was represented by his solicitor. Computer experts for both parties were also present.
The experts will now make copies of the contents of the computer and draw up a programme of work on analysing it. It is expected that this will take up to six weeks.
This would mean that a discussion by the committee on the computer contents could take place before the summer recess.
