THE Minister of State for Justice, Mr Austin Currie, spoke of his appreciation of a letter from the Victim Support organisation following a burglary at his Lucan, Dublin, home about a month ago.
Mr Currie was initiating the debate on the Bill to tighten up the bail laws. He said he would be in contact with the crime victims group to thank it for its concern.
Afterwards, Mr Currie said he presumed there was liaison between the gardai and the group, which was how he and others who had suffered at the hands of criminals came to be contacted and offered support services.
His experience - a window had been broken and a video camera taken - was "comparatively small", but he greatly appreciated the group's expression of sympathy and offer of help.
