TOKYO - A doctor belonging to the doomsday cult accused of last year's Tokyo subway gas attack tearfully apologised to the victims and testified against his former leader yesterday.

Ikuo Hayashi, testifying as a witness in the Tokyo District Court against Aum Shinri Kyo (Supreme Truth Sect) leader, Mr Shoko Asahara, said he played his part in the attack believing that the orders came from the cult's guru.
