Havana - Havana has called for the extradition from Panama of a Cuban exile arrested last week for an alleged plot to kill President Fidel Castro and also accused of masterminding decades of terrorism against Cuba.

The Foreign Minister, Mr Felipe Perez Roque, said he had telephoned his Panamanian counterpart, Mr Jose Miguel Aleman, earlier in the day to urge that Mr Luis Posada Carriles be kept in jail pending the preparation of a formal extradition request from Havana.

Mr Perez said victims of Mr Posada's alleged violence against Cuba, including a 1997 bomb campaign the exile admitted to in a newspaper interview, "can rest assured there is no human way to stop us demanding until justice is done in this case".
