CSO figures show rise in new private cars

There were 18,331 new private cars licensed in May this year compared with 16,146 in May 2004,  an increase of 13.5 per cent, according to the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

First licensing of second-hand private cars increased by 1,569 on the same month last year.

The number of new goods vehicles licensed was 4,058 in May, 2005, compared with 3,038 in the corresponding month last year, an increase of 33.6 per cent.

The total number of all vehicles licensed in May increased by 22.9 per cent when compared with the same month in 2004.

The total number of all new vehicles licensed during May was 23,958 compared with 20,613 during the same month in 2004 – an increase of 16.2 per cent.
