Thousands of people have descended on the Meath village of Slane for the long awaited Red Hot Chili Peppers concert in Lord Henry Mountcharles's back garden.
AA Roadwatch have warned motorists to expect serious delays on the N1 approach to the Meath villiage as teh concert comes to a close.So far the concert has passed off without serious incident. Four people have been arrested, two for public order and two for drug related offences and there have been over 100 minor drug seizures.
80,000 people are attending the 10-hour event, which sold out in less than three hours when tickets went on sale nearly six months ago.
Also on the bill for the by now annual rock-fest are the Foo Fighters, Morcheeba, Feeder, PJ Harvey and Queens of the Stone Age.
A major policing plan is in operation around Slane as Gardai pleaded with concert-goers to leave their cars at home and rely on public transport to get to the venue.
Slane village has been closed to through traffic from last night and will remain closed until 3 a.m. tomorrow.
The Fleadh Cheoil also gets underway in Clonmel today. Thousands of people are attending the Fleadh, which is the biggest outdoor street music festival of its kind in Europe.
Clonmel town centre will be closed to traffic today and tomorrow and will remain closed until 6 a.m. on Monday.
Gardaí have had major traffic diversions in place and say delays should be expected, particularly tomorrow.
