A police officer in Derry was injured last night when he came under attack while escorting the remains of a man from his home to the local mortuary.
The officer sustained arm and chest wounds when he was hit by a brick and a bottle thrown by a group of youths in the Durrow Park area at 11pm.
The PSNI had called to the house on behalf of the coroner following the sudden death of the man and remained at the scene to escort the remains to the nearby Altnagelvin hospital.
Children as young as 10 were among those who attacked the police at the house, the PNSI said.
