A woman has been hospitalised after being stabbed in a knife attack in Co Kildare.
The victim, who is in her 60s, sustained a number of wounds during the incident at the weekly street market in Athy.
She was taken by ambulance to Naas General Hospital, where she remained this afternoon.
Gardaí said her injuries were regarded as relatively minor and were in no way life threatening.
The incident occurred just before 12 noon as the market was underway in the Emily Square area of the town.
The location where the attack took place was sealed off immediately gardaí arrived on the scene.
The area has been examined by members of the Garda Technical Bureau.
Gardaí in Athy station are investigating the matter and while no arrests were made at the time gardaí said people in the area witnessed the incident and are hopeful they can aid the criminal inquiry.
