Woman recovering after violent carjacking in Co Meath

A woman is recovering after being subjected to a violent carjacking before dawn on Wednesday as she made her way to work.

The victim, who is from Co Meath, was dragged from her car by two men who set upon her.

Gardaí believe the two attackers picked the woman at random, adding it seemed the men needed the car and decided the woman would offer little resistance.

She had pulled into the side of a road near Enfield, Co Meath, with the intention of parking her car there and being picked up by a friend to be brought to work in a car pooling arrangement.

However, when she parked just after 5:30am two men appeared and dragged her from her 09 CE-registered silver Renault Megane and drove off, leaving her stranded and very shaken.

Garda sources said the vehicle had little monetary value and was not the type of car that would be targeted for resale.

However, gardaí are investigating reports two men were seen walking along Enfield main street and on the ring road shortly before the attack.

“They may have been stranded for whatever reason or needed transport to get out of the area,” said one source. “Obviously the reason for that may become clearer in time as we investigate.”

The incident happened at 5.40am when the woman pulled in at Moyfenrath, Enfield, and was waiting for a lift in another car.

"She was physically pulled out of the car and the two men got in and drove the car away in the direction of Kilcock, " the Garda said in a statement.
