Woman charged with murder of Eddie Girvan in Co Antrim

A woman has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a man found bound and stabbed in his Co Antrim home.

Eddie Girvan (67) aas found dead in the house on Station Road in Greenisland on Monday.

The father of two’s hands had been tied behind his back, and he had a stab wound to his chest.

Margaret Henderson (29) appeared at Belfast Magistrates' Court on Friday charged with his murder.

The accused, with an address at a homeless hostel on Verner Street in the city, spoke only to confirm she understood the allegation against her.

A detective inspector said he could connect Ms Henderson to the charge.

Defence barrister Mark Farrell did not seek bail or question the officer.

He described his client as an extremely vulnerable and fragile woman and said she should be assessed and treated by medical professionals as soon as possible.

District Judge Fiona Bagnall remanded Henderson in custody to appear again by video-link in four weeks time.

Two men, aged 23 and 24, who were also arrested in connection with the murder have been released unconditionally.

Mr Givan's Hyundai car was seen leaving the area on Monday. It then travelled down the motorway before being involved in a minor collision in Belfast city centre, according to police.

The car was later recovered in the Garner Street area.
