Witness appeal after woman hit by lorry

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses after a woman was knocked down and seriously injured in Birr, Co Offaly.

The female pedestrian, who is in her 70s, was hit by a passing truck shortly after 5pm on Tuesday as she crossed the main Birr to Tullamore Road close to Loughnane’s Topaz Garage on the N52.

The woman was brought to Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore and later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin. She remains in a critical condition.

Gardaí in Birr investigating the collision are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or who was in the area at the time to contact Birr Garda station on 057 916 9700.
