Two men are in custody after being arrested by gardaí investigating the activities of dissident republicans in Dublin and Limerick.

The men, who are in their 30s and 60s, were arrested by members of the special detective unit and the crime and security section on James St in Dublin yesterday afternoon.

Two handguns recovered at the scene are due to undergo a technical examination.

In a follow up search in the Limerick area yesterday afternoon a quantity of ammunition was also recovered.

The two males are currently detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 at Clondalkin Garda Station.
