Four men arrested during a garda operation targeting organised criminal activity are thought to have been on their way to commit a robbery at the time of their detention.
On searching one of two vehicles stopped on Harold Road in Arbour Hill, Dublin 7 on Monday morning, gardaí discovered two men, understood to be part of the same gang as the drivers of the two vehicles, in the boot of one of the cars.
Gardaí also discovered a long-bladed knife, ski masks, balaclavas, a wig and gloves when they searched the two vehicles, one of which was a taxi, at about 10.30am.
All four men, aged 32, 33, 34 and 47, were arrested by gardaí from the newly amalgamated Organised Crime Unit and Garda National Drug Unit.
They are currently being detained under suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Mountjoy and Store Street Garda stations.
Investigations are ongoing.
