Two men have been arrested after a car containing what gardaí believe are explosives was stopped on the Naas Road in Dublin.

The car was stopped by members of the Emergency Response Unit on the Naas Road, inbound just before the Long Mile Road junction, at about 7.30pm on Wednesday evening.

Gardaí said the car is believed to contain explosives and is under forensic examination.

The Naas Road is closed in both directions and in both directions on the Long Mile Road at that intersection.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.

A man in his early 30s and another in his early 40s have been arrested and are being detained at Ballyfermot and Ronanstown Garda station.
