Two men have been arrested in Co Monaghan in connection with suspected dissident republican activity.

Components for bomb making were discovered when Gardaí stopped a van in Monaghan Town shortly after midnight this morning as part of an ongoing investigation into dissident activity in the area.

The items and van were seized for technical examination.

The men, aged 25 and 50, are being detained at Monaghan Garda station under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939.
