Two men will appear in court this evening charged in connection with suspected dissident republican activities.

A 49-year-old and a 30-year-old will appear before the Special Criminal Court in Dublin at 6pm.

A 49-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman were arrested in Castlebellingham on Monday while a 30-year-old man was arrested in Navan a short time later.

Another man, aged 38, was arrested in Navan yesterday.

Three houses in Drogheda, Navan and Castlebellingham were searched in connection with the investigation as was a commercial premises in Navan. A number of vehicles and a 9mm hand gun were seized.

The woman has been released without charge.
