Half a million euro worth of cocaine has been seized in west Dublin following an intelligence led Garda operation in the area.
On Thursday afternoon, officers from the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau stopped and searched a vehicle in Ballyfermot.
There was then a follow-up search of a premises in the Dublin 20 area. The drugs were found placed in a black zip-up case.
Two men, aged 34 and 55, were arrested following the seizure and currently in custody at Ballyfermot garda station.
“These operations use advanced analytical and intelligence methods to disrupt criminals and dismantle their networks,” gardai said in a statement.
“Drug seizures play a critical role in targeting the livelihood of criminals and reducing their ability to carry out illegal activities.
“Drug seizures also help protect communities from the devastating impact of drugs and the associated criminality.”
Meanwhile, a quantity of Pentadrone, a substance linked to formerly “legal high” drugs, has been seized during a planned search of a premises in Co Carlow on Thursday evening.
The value of the substance is estimated at €20,000. During the operation in Graiguecullen, gardaí also recovered a firearm and ammunition, thought to be taken during an earlier burglary.
A 49-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is being held at Carlow Garda station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act.
The seizure was the product of an intelligence led joint operation between the District Detective and Drugs Unit and the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, as well as officers from the Revenue and Customs Service.
