‘Sophisticated’ fuel laundering plant found in Co Waterford

Operation could produce 10 million litres per annum, Revenue says

A “sophisticated” fuel laundering operation has been uncovered by Revenue in Co Waterford.

The plant had a capacity to produce 10 million litres per annum and a potential yearly loss to the Exchequer of €5m, Revenue said.

It was discovered at a commercial premises in Portlaw. A number of large tanks and ancillary equipment were detained during the raid.

Officers from Revenue’s Customs Service assisted by the Garda found the plant today.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing, Revenue said.
