Gardaí in Cork arrested a man in his late 50s for questioning following a €50,000 drugs seizure in the city centre yesterday evening.

Members of the Cork City Divisional Drugs Squad arrested the man after they stopped and searched a car in the city centre at about 7pm.

Gardaí found 7kg of cannabis resin with a street value of €50,000 in the car. They arrested a man and brought him to the Bridewell Garda station for questioning.

The man, who has an address in Dublin but is originally from Cork, was arrested under drug trafficking legislation which allows gardaí to hold suspects for up to seven days.
