Roy Keane will be called as a witness in ‘road rage’ case

Roy Keane has pleaded not guilty to an alleged road rage claim made following an incident near Manchester in January.

The Republic of Ireland assistant manager, as well as the local taxi driver who has made the claims, will both be called as witnesses, with the court also hearing on Wednesday morning that there is no CCTV footage of the incident.

Keane did not appear in court but he will be present on June 19th when he will be questioned over the claims, a week after Ireland’s crucial European qualifier against Scotland.

The 43-year-old former Manchester United and Ireland captain is said to have behaved aggressively towards taxi driver Fateh Kerar, 44, near traffic lights in Ashley Road, Altrincham, on January 30th.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police previously stated that a summons was posted on 2nd March 2015 for Keane to his home address in Hale, “in relation to an incident on Friday 30th January 2015 when police were called to Ashley Road, Altrincham to a report that a man had behaved aggressively towards another man.”

He was summonsed to appear at Trafford Magistrates’ Court to face an allegation that he committed a Section 4A Public Order offence, which is classed as disorderly behaviour with intent to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

Keane was due to appear in court last Tuesday, yet with his involvement with the Irish squad during their 1-1 draw with Poland at the Aviva two days beforehand, it was reported that he requested the rearranged hearing for this Wednesday.
