Detectives investigating a pre-Christmas bomb attack in Belfast have arrested a 41-year-old man.
The suspect was detained in the north of the city today.
Dissident republicans opposed to the peace process were blamed for the attack, part of a series of festive season incidents targeting the city centre which saw the return of police checkpoints and guards outside shopping centres.
The device, which was contained in a sports holdall, exploded on the evening of December 13th in an area packed with festive revellers. No one was injured in the blast on Exchange Street West.
A warning had been given but the bomb was left at a different location from that named in a call to a newspaper.
Police were clearing about 1,000 people from several premises when it exploded.
Last month detectives released CCTV images of a cyclist they believed transported the bomb into the city centre on the handlebars.
Detectives have again appealed for anyone with information about the identity of the man on the bike to come forward.
The suspect arrested today has been taken to the PSNI’s serious crime suite in Antrim for questioning.
