The West Belfast councillor said those who carried out the assault needed to be “taken off the streets as soon as possible”.

“First and foremost the thoughts of the community are with the victim who has suffered this dreadful ordeal. I would call on anyone with any information whatsoever to contact the PSNI so that the culprits can be taken off the streets.

“I would also appeal to women to remain vigilant and to make sure they are accompanied when travelling at night until those responsible are arrested. This has shocked the local community who will not feel safe until the perpetrators are apprehended.”
