Protests planned over Jobstown with four more arrested today

A protest is being planned for the Department of Justice on Thursday following the arrest of a further four individuals in relation to protests in Jobstown last November.

Gardaí say four males were arrested on Wednesday morning as part of an investigation into disturbances in the Tallaght area on November 15th which saw Tánaiste Joan Burton trapped in her car for over two hours.

The ages and identities of the individuals are not yet known, but gardaí have confirmedthey are being questioned in Tallaght and Rathfarnham Garda stations.

Wednesday’s detentions follow on from four arrests made on Tuesday in relation to the events of last November, and brings the total number of arrests in connection with the incident to 12 since the start of the week.

Socialist Party TD Paul Murphy and two county councillors were among four people held by gardaí on Monday. They were released later in the day, and files are being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

On Twitter on Wednesday morning, Dublin South-West TD Murphy called on his followers to take part in a protest which is due to be held outside the Department of Justice offices on St Stephen's Green on Thursday evening.

“The arrests and #PoliticalPolicing must end. Protest Thurs 6.30pm at Dept of Justice,” he tweeted.
