‘Potentially dangerous’ devices made safe in Co Longford

Two “potentially dangerous” improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were made safe by the Army in Co Longford this afternoon.

The devices were found at a "private residence" on the Bracklin Road, Edgeworthstown , the Defence Forces said in a statement.

The Army bomb disposal team was deployed after a call from gardaí. They team arrived on the scene at about 2.35pm.

Road closures were put in place by emergency services and nearby houses were evacuated.

The team made the devices safe and did not need to carry out a controlled explosion. The area was declared safe at 3.45pm

They were taken to a safe location for further examination by military personnel. The Defence Forces will give the device and their components to gardaí to assist them with the investigation into the incident.
