Police investigating murder of Lyra McKee make another arrest

Man (63) brought to Musgrave police station in Belfast under Terrorism Act

A 63-year-old man was arrested in Derry on Monday morning by detectives investigating the murder of journalist Lyra McKee in 2019.

The man was arrested under the Terrorism Act and has been taken to the serious crime suite at Musgrave police station in Belfast where he will be interviewed, the Police Service of Northern Ireland said in a statement.

Ms McKee (29) was shot and killed while observing a riot in the Creggan area of Derry in April 2019.

A 53-year-old man was charged with riot, assault and throwing petrol bombs by investigating detectives on Friday. He is expected to appear before Derry Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

A 44-year-old man was also arrested on Friday, pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

Three other men have already been charged with the murder of Ms McKee while another four have been charged with rioting and associated offences.
