Motorcyclist dies after colliding with cow in Co Meath

Animal also killed in collision on Monday night on Navan to Athboy road

A man has died after his motorcycle hit a cow near Navan, Co Meath.

The 28-year-old man was fatally injured when he collided with the cow at about 10.15pm on Monday at Clarke’s Cross on the Navan to Athboy road N51.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The cow was also killed in the collision.

The man’s body was removed to the mortuary at Navan Hospital and a postmortem is to be arranged.

The road is currently closed for forensic collision examination and local diversions are in place. The road is expected to remain closed until lunchtime on Tuesday.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone who was on that stretch of road between 10pm and 10.15pm to contact them at Navan Garda station on 046 9036100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111 or any Garda station.
