Thieves arrested after gardaí intercept getaway car and seize stolen cash

Two armed men who robbed a filling station in Blessington, Co Wicklow last night have been arrested.

They entered the filling station shortly after 10pm, one armed a sword, the other carrying a handgun.

After stealing an undisclosed quantity of cash the men drove off but they were stopped by gardaí a short time afterwards.

The men, one aged in his thirties and the second in his forties, were arrested and the gun, the sword and the cash were recovered.

The men are being questioned at Bray Garda station.

The filling station remains sealed off for a technical examination.
