Man who arranged to meet woman he contacted online carjacked

A man who went to meet a woman he had contacted online was the victim of a car jacking, gardaí have confirmed.

The 28-year-old arrived at Dundalk Garda station at 4am on Tuesday and told gardaí he had been waiting to meet a woman he had met online when he became the victim of crime.

The pair had arranged to meet up at Boyd's car park close to Dundalk town centre. The man, who is from Co Louth, said he was waiting there when he was approached by a man with a knife.

The man demanded his wallet and the keys to his jeep.

He was then forced to show the man how to start the jeep as it was an automatic.

The man told the victim he was from Drogheda but needed to go to Ardee, also in Co Louth.

Gardai say the victim was left in fear.

The vehicle was recovered in the Oakland Park estate in Dundalk.

A spokesman for gardaí in Dundalk advised anyone arranging to meet up with someone they contacted online to exercise caution.
