Man to be charged over murder of Thomas Horan in Dublin

63-year-old victim was found dead in his flat in Irishtown in early hours of Monday morning

A man in his 20s is due in court tomorrow in connection with the murder of 63-year-old Thomas Horan in Dublin earlier this week.

Mr Horan, from Mullingar, Co Westmeath, but a long-term resident of Dublin, was found dead in his flat, where he lived alone, in Irishtown, in the south inner city, in the early hours of Monday.

He had an intellectual disability and worked at times as a handyman.

The first gardaí learned of any issue at the flat, which is part of a complex for older people run by Dublin City Council, was when a woman rang 999 at about 4am on Monday to report Mr Horan was injured at his home.

The accused man is expected to appear before Dublin District Court number three at the Criminal Courts of Justice complex at 10.30am tomorrow.
